orGLAMic skincare isn’t just for the ladies anymore!  Well-loved, Los Angeles-based ARCONA has recently launched ARCONA | MEN, a unique line for all gents skincare needs.  The perfect Manly Monday item, this men’s line (as with all Arcona products) does not contain petrochemicals, binders or fillers, chemical stabilizers, parabens, sodium lauryl sulphates, perfumes, dyes, or any other caustic, toxic ingredients.  Eight products, ranging from Soothing Aftershave Balm to Peptide Anti-Wrinkle for Face and Eye Area are all beautifully packaged in a manly, understated way that we just love here at orGLAMic.  And if you can barely get your guy to wash his face then the Daily Cleansing and Toning Bar, pictured above,  is the perfect way to get him hooked – just tell him it’s a good ol’ bar of soap!  Click here for more info and to purchase.

Running an eco-friendly shopping website feels like an oxymoron some days.  But as I sit here sipping tea, I am thankful that I am not fighting the masses, rushing around malls, and participating in this make-believe holiday we call Black Friday.  I’m saying no to the hysteria thrust upon us by the companies benefitting, and passing on the senseless urge to buy, buy, buy.  Now don’t get me wrong, I like shiny new things as much as the next person, but this year I want to be accountable and proud of my lessened impact on the planet.  And whether that resonates as integrity for you as it does me, or otherwise, I am here to help you reach that same goal this year.  Being a conscious consumer doesn’t mean it isn’t nice to give thoughtful gifts to loved ones or that the thrill of opening a gift is any less, so for the next four weeks we’ll be highlighting holiday gifts here on orGLAMic that make less of an impact on our planet while still bringing that same holiday spirit to all.  Before we begin, I urge you to recalibrate those shopping senses and take 20 minutes to watch Annie Leonard’s The Story of Stuff – it is fun, informative and impactful.  Enjoy your weekend and get ready for a month of orGLAMic gifts beginning right here on Monday!

Bundle up in style this holiday season with this orGLAMic sweater from Stewart+Brown.  Always a staple for organic basics, I was delighted to stumble upon the tres fashionable Ladder Stitch Cardigan.  This 100% cashmere cardigan is made with fibers hand-combed from the downy undercoat of cashmere goats residing on the remote, rugged steppe of Outer Mongolia.  The company harvests, spins and knits their cashmere designs in Mongolia in an effort to avoid environmentally damaging desertification due to overgrazing, and to help sustain the centuries-old Mongolian herders’ nomadic way of life.  Featured in the November issue of Vogue, I apparently am not the only one loving this orGLAMic piece – click here to see Michelle Williams modeling the cardigan!  Or click here to purchase your very own.

Add a little pizzaz to your holiday attire with orGLAMic baubles from handmade jewelry line Elva Fields.  Since 2003, designer Emily Wheat Maynard has scoured local and far-flung markets, auctions, and shops for unusual vintage and antique pieces.  The treasured finds are then reconfigured and incorporated in unexpected, timeless designs that are sure to make any orGLAMic reader squeal with delight.  The earrings pictured above are made of faceted vintage brass beads clustered together to create a big and bold look to any outfit.  Personally, I think they would look great with a black cowl neck sweater and jeans combo and hair in a casual, messy updo.  Click here to browse the collections for orGLAMic finds, or here to locate a local retailer near you.

Manly Mondays is in for a treat with Collection PAS.  C-PAS is the most orGLAMic  menswear line that I have come across.  While the Spring ’10 Collection has already been released, the Fall ’09 Collection does the trick at the moment.  All of the well-designed duds are made of natural, recycled and sustainable materials and are classic yet hip at the same time.  The Fall ’09 Collection includes items are made from organic cotton, organic denim, and even re-used wool blankets.  And, if you are in NY, you can also go in for a custom suit (and bring in old t’s to be a part of the suit lining!)  Click here to browse the orGLAMic website.

This revolutionary company is transforming the way America lives, one orGLAMic PeopleTowel at a time.  A chic throwback to the more eco-friendly days of handkerchiefs (and the way the Japanese have been living forever!), these 100% cotton, reusable personal towels are the wave of the future.  Instead of using paper towels throughout the day, it is a cinch to carry one of these well-designed towels along for the ride.  Actually, for each person that uses a PeopleTowel for a year, landfill waste is reduced by 23 lbs. and 250 gallons of water is conserved.  And if you hurry up and order a PeopleTowel before 11/30, you will receive a free EcoSak to carry your towel in! Click here to purchase the ultimate orGLAMic stocking stuffer.

And soon, you too can get in on the revolution, with the first ever People Towels’ Design Contest!  Yours truly (orGLAMic!) has been asked to be one of the judges on the panel, helping select the newest design to be printed on the next set of PeopleTowels.  With tons of cash prizes, and the chance for your creation to be the next PeopleTowel, the contest begins on February February 4th, 2010 so click here for all the orGLAMic details.

I guess we have babies on the brain this week here at orGLAMic, because the products by 3 Sprouts are simply irresistable.  Their Organic Storage Bins are made of 100% certified organic cotton canvas, and are adorably decorated with 100% eco-spun felt made from recycled water bottles and dyed with low-impact dyes.  In addition to the monkey design above, the bins come in elephant and owl options.  These cute bins can help kids keep their books and toys in order, be a place to store all of Fido’s treats, leashes, etc, or even act as a show bin to keep outside debris from getting past the front door.  3 Sprouts also offers hooded towels, place mats and smocks in equally bright and eco-conscious designs.  Click here to browse the orGLAMic website.

Luckily there are more and more eco-friendly cribs on the market today, but few of them are as orGLAMic as the crib in The Roh Collection by Spot on Square.  “The Spot for the Modern Tot” is the home of one of my favorite orGLAMic designs that I have found, for a children’s nursery or otherwise!  Not only is this crib beautifully designed and crafted, but the locally sourced walnut frame has a durable half-inch, BPA free, phthalate free, 100% recyclable, clear acrylic piece that keeps baby safe and engaged with the outside world at the same time.  While The Roh Collection isn’t quite available, it isn’t too early to purchase and start planning for that little bundle of joy.  Click here for purchase, of here to browse the Eicho and Hiya collections as well.

Those of you that are following me on twitter (twitter.com/orglamic) already know that I am on my 13th day of no sugar or alcohol.  I cannot believe I have made it this far (yay! pat on back for myself!) but I definitely have The Super Salve Company‘s Coconut Cream to thank.  Why?  Well it just smells so absolutely, deliciously edible that I literally get my sweet fix while applying it every morning.  Of course the cream, whose main ingredient is organic coconut oil, also works wonders on my parched winter skin.  I also love the fact that the label indicates that since the cream is freshly made with natural preservatives in small batches it should be treated like a food and kept cool or refrigerated after opening.  Click here to browse all of the orGLAMic bodycare products.
